Munteanu Double Sinks NYCFC as DC United Extend Unbeaten Run

Oisin Coyne at Citi Field May 3, 2026 at 09:07 PM

New York City FC’s struggles continued on Sunday afternoon as DC United secured a 2–0 win at Citi Field, extending the hosts’ winless run to seven matches in MLS.

The first chance of the game fell early to Agustín Ojeda in the third minute, but the Argentine dragged his right-footed effort wide from the right side of the box.

It was DC United who took control as the half wore on, and they found the breakthrough in the 29th minute. A long throw from Stroud caused chaos in the NYCFC penalty area, with the home defence unable to clear. The ball eventually fell to Louis Munteanu, who made no mistake from close range to give the visitors a deserved lead.

It was a flat first-half display from both sides, though DC carried the greater threat, registering 12 shots, four on target, while NYCFC managed just three attempts before the break.

NYCFC thought they had found a way back into the game ten minutes into the second half, but Ojeda’s effort was ruled out for offside.

Any hopes of a comeback were effectively ended in the 73rd minute when DC were awarded a penalty. Keaton Parks was penalised for a shove on Lucas Bartlett inside the area. Munteanu stepped up and calmly converted, slotting into the bottom-right corner to double his tally and DC’s advantage.

The 2-0 win sees DC United make it back-to-back wins and extend their unbeaten run to four matches in MLS, while Pascal Jansen’s NYCFC remain without a league win in seven games, with pressure continuing to mount.

Full Time: New York City FC 0-2 DC United.
