Lansdowne Yonkers Grinds Out 1–0 Win Over Zum Schneider in Heated Rivalry Clash
Bhoys win 11th straight as late goal caps dominant performance
YONKERS, N.Y. — Lansdowne Yonkers extended its winning streak to 11 matches in all competitions with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Zum Schneider on Saturday night at Tibbetts Brook Park, in a Metropolitan Conference clash that carried both playoff implications and lingering tension.
The matchup came with added edge after the clubs’ first scheduled meeting in December was called off due to winter conditions and ultimately never rescheduled, resulting in a forfeit and point deduction for Zum Schneider. That backdrop contributed to a physical and tightly contested encounter.
Lansdowne controlled much of the match but was repeatedly denied in the first half by Zum Schneider goalkeeper Grant Engel, who made several key saves to keep the score level. Engel was eventually forced off due to injury, with outfield player Jason Lee stepping in as an emergency replacement in goal.
Despite sustained pressure and multiple chances from Danu Kinsella-Bishop and Liam Salmon, Lansdowne went into halftime without a breakthrough.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Lansdowne dominating possession and pushing forward through Seamus Keogh, João Delgado, and James Peter Boote. Full-backs Nicolas Macri Badessich and Ethan Furphy advanced aggressively, keeping Zum Schneider pinned deep.
Zum Schneider threatened intermittently on the counterattack, led by the pace of Wisdom Hountondji and the work rate of Diego Silva, but Lansdowne’s defense — anchored by Luis Puchol Del Pozo and Musa Bala Danso — held firm.
The decisive moment came late. Marco Charnas ran onto a ball played over the top, recovered from a heavy first touch, and calmly finished past Lee to break the deadlock.
The goal proved enough to secure the victory, Lansdowne’s eighth consecutive league win, keeping the club firmly in pursuit of the Metropolitan Conference lead.
For Zum Schneider, the loss marks a rare setback at Tibbetts Brook Park, where it has historically found success, but also underscores the fine margins in a tightly contested title race.
Lansdowne now enters a critical stretch of fixtures, beginning with a key league matchup against Leros SC on Thursday, followed by a National Amateur Cup showdown with Loco Gunners on Saturday. With momentum building and ambitions across multiple competitions, the club continues to position itself as a major contender this season.
